On December 20, 2014, the Legacy community received the devastating news that Jonathan Rosado, our beloved coach, mentor, student, and friend, was tragically and senselessly murdered at his doorstep in Huntington Park, Philadelphia. He was just 22. It’s impossible to explain the impact Jonathan had on the many lives he touched, on the children he coached and mentored, on the at-risk youth whose lives he positively impacted. His story is a powerful message of hard-work and perseverance.
While Legacy continues its work and Jonathan’s students their learning , the organization aims to keep Jonathan’s memory and philosophies alive and strong by establishing both the Jonathan Rosado Memorial Fund.
The Jonathan Rosado Memorial Fund was established at the Rosado family’s bequest to serve as a scholarship fund for children who wish to attend full-day summer tennis camp, but may lack the funds. Donations can be made by completing the form below or by sending a check to Legacy Youth Tennis and Education at 4842 Ridge Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19129.
In Jonathan’s words: [extracted from his application to the Up2Us coaching program]
“I really care about every student I teach. It’s not a job to me, it’s not about the money. It’s about me helping every single student realize their true self-worth: what they are capable of achieving, and helping them reach their goal. I have one more semester left at Community College of Philadelphia, and I will obtain my Associates. After that I will be off to Temple or La Salle to get my bachelors in Secondary Education. My journey is not over yet, I have a lot to learn, and still a lot to prove to myself. I will practice what I preach and me and [my] students will reach our goals together.”
