Staff

Senior Management

Kenny Holdsman, President

Kenny comes to us from the Academy for Educational Development where he was the senior program officer. He has over ten years experience in developing and conducting service learning, youth development, and community partnership programs. Kenny is a graduate of Lehigh University and received his J.D. from Temple University.

Lance Lee, Vice President of Tennis and National Partnerships

Lance oversees all tennis programs at the Center and has on and off court responsibilities as lead coach and program manager for the Maximum Performance, Junior Development, Junior Competitive, Munchkins, and Future Stars clinics.  Lance is a USTA certified High Performance Coach and certified PTR National Tester. He is a graduate of Hampton University and received his J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia. Lance grew up playing tennis at the Center and has a beautiful daughter Alana.

John McGinty, Director of Education and Camden Initiatives

John directs the educational curriculum in our programs and runs our after school and summer programs in Camden, New Jersey.  John is from Philadelphia and grew up in our program. He has degrees from LaSalle University (BA), University of Penn (MS), and St. John’s College (MA). He is also a PTR Certified Professional and played at the Center as a kid.

Jean Park, Vice President of Finance and Operations

Jean supervises financial, accounting, human resource, and property management activities for the center. Jean is a graduate of Penn State University and received her master’s degree from Drexel University.

Jacquie Patterson, Vice President of Organizational Advancement

Jacquie oversees fundraising, donations, marketing and communications. She comes to us from the People’s Emergency Center, where she was the vice president of development. She brings over ten years experience creating and managing programs for low-income families. Jacquie received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from New York University.  She is also a graduate of the NonProfit Executive Leadership Institute at Bryn Mawr College.

Kareem Bryant, Director of Neighborhood Based Programs

Kareem grew up playing tennis on the public courts throughout the city.  As a former student-athlete, he went on to play college tennis at Central Connecticut State University, a Division I school.   Kareem traveled throughout the United States playing professional tennis, then returned to Philadelphia as a professional coach at Legacy Youth Tennis and Education in 2001.

Christine Matulewicz, Director of Capacity Building

Christine oversees facilities management, human resources and organizational development. She also assists Kareem Bryant in developing and implementing our Neighborhood Based Programs. Christine is a graduate of Williams College and is working toward her master’s in Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania.

Operations

Al White, Building Supervisor

Al maintains the facility along with a fleet of dedicated maintenance staff.  He has been a member of the team for four years.

Dean Smith, Building Associate and Staff Pro

Dean began volunteering as a tennis coach in 2010 through our partnership with Delaware Valley High School. He also volunteered on our maintenance team, and he was so dedicated and skilled that we invited him to join the staff. Dean’s work with us has continued to expand. In addition to his maintenance work, Dean is also an invaluable tennis instructor for our neighborhood-based After-School and NJTL programs and various community groups at the Center.

Keia Carter, Office Manager and Front Desk Staff

Keia coordinates all administrative functions for the organization and can also be seen working at the front desk on weekends.  She is a native of Connecticut who has over 10 years experience working for non profit youth development organizations.

Front Desk Staff

Dominique Brown, Front Desk Staff

Dominique is a recent Franklin and Marshall graduate. She spends her weekdays as a City Year Corp, and will be working here weekend evenings. Dominique brings the perfect set of experience: she has worked at Wissinoming Rec Center as an instructor, PNC as a teller, at F&M’s Athletic Department as a Student Building Manager, and now as a City Corp member.

LaVonna Ricketts, Front Desk Staff

LaVonna is a recent Columbia University graduate and a current MS in Education student at Penn. LaVonna has extensive experience working with youth in Girls Scouts and at a school in NYC. In her work at Columbia’s Dept of Public Safety, she engaged with visitors and callers.

Danielle Townsend, Front Desk Staff

Danielle is a Philly native and graduate of Temple with a BA in Broadcasting. She comes to us with a host of retail, admin and customer service experience as well as a collection of interesting hobbies (ask her about 18th century book binding!). The best word I can use to describe her is effervescent.

Development

Amy Gendall, Grant Writer

Amy comes to us from Legal Aid of SEPA where she was Development Director for 6 years. Amy has extensive experience in development and nonprofit leadership, especially in the child care arena, so she is excited to return to a youth serving organization.

Community Programs

Ben Hirsh, Coordinator of Youth Leadership and Volunteer Engagement

Ben manages our emerging youth leadership programming, including the Goodstein Junior Leaders program. Also, Ben is spearheading a soon-to-be launched Duke of Edinburgh program and a range of other opportunities for other young people to participate in the decision making and governance of our organization. Ben is pursuing a degree in adult organizational development at Temple’s College of Education.

Ben Gemberling-Johnson, Coaching Associate

Ben returns to us after going to college at Dickinson and spending some time teaching English in Ecuador. Ben grew up playing and working in the NJTL program in the northwest and then taught at Germantown Cricket Club’s youth tennis camp. Ben is working with the Richard Allen group at the Center and at a number of After-School sites.

Coaches and Instructors

Jon Glover, Co-Director of Player Development

Jon co-manages our Maximum Performance tennis program, including program design, player identification, and on-court player development.  As a former Legacy Youth Tennis and Education student-athlete, Jon went on to play college tennis on a scholarship at the University of Florida.  He was also the coach and hitting partner for ATP-ranked player Justin O’Neal.

Justin O’Neal, Co-Director of Player Development

Justin co-manages our Maximum Performance tennis program, including program design, player identification, and on-court player development.  He resumed his pro career in the fall of 2006 after a seven-year hiatus between competitive professional tournaments, achieving a career high ATP ranking of 601.  Justin retired from professional play in the spring of 2009 and re-united with form University of Florida teammate Jon Glover to resume coaching high-caliber junior players.

Dave Topor, Staff Pro

Dave is an experienced pro who has been part of the Legacy staff since 2006. He has coached a variety of programs/levels from NJTL to competing juniors. He was also Head Coach of Rosemont College from 2009-2011. His great attitude and love for the game help make him the coach he is.

Kein Wilson, Staff Pro

Kein grew up playing tennis at the Center.  His love of tennis and young people is unsurpassed.

Lavell Sutton, Staff Pro and Coordinator for Junior Advanced Clinic

Lavell began playing tennis at the Center when he was 11 years old and began his professional career here in 2006.  Lavell is USPTA and PTR Certified Professional with more than 7 years of combined experience in teaching and managing tennis. He was the Assistant Coach of Swarthmore College 2008 – 2010. He is happy to be back as the Coordinator of the Junior Advanced Clinic.

Rachel Isenberg, Staff Pro

Rachel’s high energy and fun spirit, combined with her excellent coaching skills make for a great tennis pro.

Sanjin Kunovac, Staff Pro

Sanjin has been a player and coach at the IMG Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, coached by and working alongside the best coaches in the world.  Currently, Sanjin is a Maximum Performance Coach at Legacy and an assistant coach for the Men’s Tennis Team at Temple University.

Kamala Kannan, Staff Pro

Maximum Performance Tennis Pro, “KK” was internationally ranked in the ATP world rankings – 540 in singles and 320 in doubles.  KK was a top junior in India and played in the Junior Davis Cup.

Zack Fuller, CoreXcell

Zack earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University in Industrial Design and studied Exercise Physiology.  After college, he started Corexcell in 2006 with the goal to develop an organized training system to be implemented into other training facilities around the country and to give athletes the advantage they need to improve speed, athleticism, and strength year after year. As an athlete, Zack was ranked 78th in the nation in juniors’ tennis and was a PIAA District 11 tennis champion as sophomore in 1993 for Emmaus High School.

Brian McGhee, Staff Pro

Brian has returned to Legacy after a few years away. Brian grew up in the program, was an accomplished junior player, and went to Central Connecticut University on a tennis scholarship. He has been coaching ever since.

Kristen Harris, Community Outreach Coordinator

Kristen Harris grew up in Philadelphia and also came up in the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education program. She was a nationally ranked junior and played Division I college tennis at Howard University where she received a degree in teaching. She was recently awarded the position of assistant coach at Drexel University. In addition to working all of the clinics, she will also be involved with our upgraded community outreach efforts, specifically connecting existing neighborhood programs to our Center-based programs. Kristen is certified at the professional level thru the USPTR. She is also a proud Legacy parent!
